Ningbo's spring bloom boom
Spring blossoms in Ningbo have evolved from a simple seasonal attraction into a growing driver of tourism, visitor spending, and rural development.
From cherry and peach blossoms to pear flowers and vast rapeseed fields, spring in Ningbo is in full bloom — and increasingly competitive. Parks, villages, and scenic areas are no longer content to simply showcase natural beauty; they are actively competing for visitors, online visibility, and economic returns in what locals often call the "flower economy".
At Ningbo's popular Sakura Park, more than 500 cherry trees across 26 varieties can attract over 30,000 visitors a day during peak bloom. This year, the park drew widespread attention after two penguins from a local aquarium were brought in for a special visit under the cherry blossoms.
Flower tourism in Ningbo is no longer just about sightseeing; it has shifted toward experience-based consumption. Visitors now drink coffee under cherry trees, take part in themed cultural activities, or stroll through curated floral installations designed to encourage interaction and photography.
During its night blossom season, Ningbo Botanical Garden recorded daily visits of over 55,000, setting a new record. In rural areas such as Limin village and Xiaowangmiao subdistrict, cafes and local vendors reported strong sales growth during peak bloom periods.
