A citywide film and culture festival in Ningbo is bringing together immersive movie-making experiences, cutting-edge production technology, and traditional Chinese craftsmanship in a public event running from April 15 to 19 at Tianyi Square.

The Film Culture Carnival turns parts of the city into an interactive showcase of China's film industry and cultural heritage, offering visitors a chance to step inside the world of cinema while exploring a parallel market focused on intangible cultural traditions.

Major industry players taking part include China Film Group, Shanghai Film Group, Hengdian World Studios, and consumer drone-maker DJI.

The festival highlights the latest developments in film production, from domestically developed cinema cameras and virtual production workflows to XR screening technology. A film created entirely using virtual production made its debut during the opening program, with additional demonstrations featuring robotics and motion equipment used in modern filmmaking.

Alongside the technology showcases, the event features a cultural market where traditional crafts meet film-inspired creativity. Visitors can explore handmade works, live demonstrations, and regional food culture from across China, with collaborations linking popular film titles such as Ne Zha 2 and Chang'an with crafts like ceramics, embroidery, paper cutting, and metalwork.

Ningbo's heritage is also prominently featured, with local crafts, performances, and food traditions presented by master artisans recognized at the national level.
