Canadian visitor Galim James Gaisin shared a close-up look at one of China's most advanced deep-sea fishing operations by boarding Yongli, Zhejiang's first Antarctic krill fishing vessel, in Ningbo's Xiangshan county.
Built by Ningbo Ouya Blue-waters Fishery Co with a total investment of 650 million yuan ($94 million), the 140-meter-long vessel represents a new generation of domestically designed Antarctic krill ships. Yongli is equipped with a continuous pumping system that enables uninterrupted harvesting at sea, with daily catches of up to 1,000 metric tons and a capacity of up to 15,800 tons.
Antarctic krill must be processed within 2.5 hours of capture to preserve its quality and nutritional value. To meet this requirement, the vessel integrates advanced onboard systems covering fishing, processing, freezing, and packaging in a fully automated production line.
Gaisin's visit offers a rare glimpse into how high-tech marine engineering is expanding China's capabilities in Antarctic fishing. Check it out!
