Balcony flute concert enlivens Ningbo University
On March 20, a student's flute performance on a dormitory balcony brought a touch of music and serenity to Ningbo University, drawing faculty, students, and passersby to pause and listen.
Lu Haodong, a music student, performed a selection of lively spring-inspired and reflective pieces on bamboo and Western flutes. The melodies drifted across campus, creating a calm, immersive atmosphere.
"Playing here is completely different from a concert hall," Lu said. "When music fills the spaces where students live and walk every day, it becomes part of their life in a natural, warm way."
Organized by the university's student affairs department and College of Music, the event aimed to make classical and contemporary music more approachable. Instructor Li Fan noted that playing music in everyday spaces helps students engage with art organically, without the formality of traditional concerts.
This balcony performance is part of a broader initiative to host seasonal, themed music events across campus, encouraging students to participate in programming and performance. By bringing music into daily life, Ningbo University hopes to enrich campus culture and foster creativity and community through the arts.
