Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in East China's Zhejiang province handled a record 4.27 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in September, up 11.5 percent year-on-year.
The port handled more than 34.66 million TEUs in the first nine months of 2026, up 6.8 percent year-on-year, laying a solid foundation to meet its annual targets.
Behind the record performance is a series of measures to improve operational efficiency and maximize capacity. Since September, the port's average daily container handling volume has risen from 130,000 TEUs to 142,000 TEUs, reaching 145,000 TEUs per day during the National Day holiday.
The port has also strengthened coordination with shipping companies, sharing real-time information on vessel arrivals, terminal capacity, and yard congestion to optimize schedules and resource allocation. In September, it adjusted berthing arrangements for 74 vessel calls and optimized three container shipping routes.
Meanwhile, coordinated efforts by maritime, border inspection, and customs authorities have helped reduce delays. The average non-operational time for container ships at the port fell to 70 minutes in September, 34 minutes less than the average for 2025.
